The imposing backdrop of Royal Pavilion in Queen Mother Square would be an impressive address for any homeowner . Currently under construction , the impressive design by Ben Pentreath , a London- and Dorsetbased architect who specialises in buildings that seamlessly fit their environment , often drawing from classical inspiration . The showcase Royal Pavilion building will feature 20 luxury apartments and a health spa . Named after one of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth , the Queen Mother ’ s racehorses , Royal Pavilion also borrows its lineage from the famous seaside retreat built at Brighton in 1787 for George Prince of Wales , who became the Prince Regent in 1811 . The build is being handled by local family firm CG Fry & Son , who were the first building firm on the Poundbury site back in 1993 . In the last 23 years the company has constructed high-quality buildings across Poundbury and will continue throughout the northern quadrants .

“ Poundbury helped put the name of C G Fry & Son on the map . It ’ s nice to think that we have been developing here for 23 years and the pinnacle of this work is building Royal Pavilion , the most incredible classical building in the heart of the sensational Queen Mother Square . We are proud to have built a piece of history .” says Philip Fry of CG Fry & Son . Next to Royal Pavilion is the equally stunning Strathmore House that opened in April this year . Built by ZeroC and designed by the leading classical architects Quinlan & Francis Terry , Strathmore House has pride of place in Queen Mother Square . Former Navy helicopter pilot Kim Slowe of ZeroC lives and works in Poundbury and his company specialises in low-carbon houses . For Kim , Poundbury has been a fantastic opportunity for Dorchester . “ Queen Mother Square is a shining example that even in 2016 we can create extraordinary buildings . I believe there are no more impressive places built this generation outside of London ,” says Kim Slowe , Managing Director of ZeroC .
