With the site already playing host to sister festival Camp Bestival earlier in the season, it has a ready-made following. Speaking of which, Camp Bestival has yet another show-stopping line-up of major acts such as Madness, Brian Wilson, All Saints, Leftfield and many more. The festival is know for its award-winning family atmosphere and emphasis on entertainment and activities for the children. Little ones will be pleased to learn that kids TV favourites Mr Tumble, Dick and Dom and Mister Maker will be in attendance at Lulworth Castle. For alternatives to big music festivals, Dorset also plays host to classical music events and summer jazz evenings. Poole, Lyme Regis and Swanage all feature a jazz festival over the course of the summer bringing live jazz sounds to the sea. There’s also the popular Purbeck Valley Folk Festival that takes place at Purbeck Valley Farm near Harman’s Cross in August. This year will see a headlining turn from Badly Drawn Boy, Turin Brakes and Ben Ottewell from Gomez. THE TASTE OF SUMMER Dorset has also found its place on the foodie map. The local farming industry, artisan producers and a sense of pride in local produce from Dorset communities are all factors that have contributed to a thriving food and drink industry. Poundbury has found its own unique place on the foodie scene. Large household names such as Dorset Cereals and House of Dorchester chocolate company are located in Poundbury, but smaller, independent food-based companies have also made Poundbury their home.
