COM 180 BRIDPORT ROAD, POUNDBURY 2 WWW.CELEBRATINGPOUNDBURY.CO.UK FOR LIFE AND HOME his year not only marks the 25-year anniversary of Poundbury but also a long awaited addition. Damers First School opened its doors this month and now 450 children can call it their new school home. Its position on the Great Field will overlook their playing field and their outdoor areas. As a local parent myself, I welcome the addition of this fantastic facility and hope the teachers, parents and schoolchildren enjoy their new school. Next to the school, this year we will also see the new Dorchester Community Church and funding is in place for a new skate park, BMX track and natural play area. Just a few months ago plans were agreed by the council for Crown Hall in the North East Quadrant. The future of this is yet to be finalised but the Duchy of Cornwall team has pledged to consult with residents to gage what community facilities are required before this goes ahead. A recent business survey has established there are now 2,340 people working in Poundbury every day in 185 businesses. This issue we are proud to launch a new business supplement that champions local businesses in Poundbury. From artisan butchers to florists, cake makers, dress sellers and toy shops, Poundbury has a vast amount to offer and we want to shout about it. Please do support local businesses as much as you can and help make our community stronger by joining in the many events throughout the year. And please get in touch if there’s anything you’d like us to feature – we’d love to hear from you. Miriam Phillips Miriam Phillips Editor [email protected] WWW.CELEBRATINGPOUNDBURY.CO.UK 3
