Day 6…or was it 7? By this point in any tour, you begin to lose track of how many days you’ve been on the road. So far as I can recall, the days following the outlet mall in Carolina were spent moving from church to church, eating on the way, and slowly and steadily leaving the warm weather behind. We performed on multiple occasions and had some laughs, but at this stage in the game, I think we were all getting worn out. Our dreariness was broken for a brief while when we arrived at Southern Adventist University where we had access to a Jacuzzi, which you had to be 18 to enter (I am still holding a grudge against that lifeguard) and two awesome swimming pools. The food at Southern was, to say the least, the spark of life that got me through that last long stretch. Sometime near the end… If the days described above seemed like a blur, then these last few days were more of a stupor. After being woken up at an ungodly hour, we were forced to load the bus and prepare for the last, long, 14-hour drive that would see us across the border and back in Canada. In the process we would be driving through multiple states, including Ohio. Ugh…if you’ve never driven through Ohio, well… don’t. It was my third or fourth time driving through that endless abyss and it is the longest, most grueling, boring, smash-your-headagainst-a-wall-syndrome-inducing experience ever. When we finally reached Detroit, the border patrol wanted us to sing them a song… it’s hard to explain, but you don’t really feel like singing after trekking through Ohio. If there is a hell on earth, then Ohio is the next closest thing. To make a punishing day seem even bleaker, our beloved bus driver Carl had to leave us at the border. Our new driver Tyler seemed great and all…but we’ll just say that he was no Carl. The Last Day We spent the final day of tour in Toronto, performing at two different churches. We ended our run with a bang and even though we were all exhausted and looking forward to getting home, I think we could mostly agree that it was sad to see it come to an end. As for myself, I will always remember the many victories and defeats we had on that trip and I can confidently say that though it sometimes got rough, choir tour 2014 was one of the best.
