REPRESENTATION Industry Reference Groups REPRESENTATION Be an active contributor on Government and Industry Standing Committees where our opinions are actively sought as the pre-eminent source of advice of civil construction industry matters. Our FocuS CCF continued to represent the interest of members on a wide range of industry issues through participation on the following Key Reference Groups and Standing Committees, where we actively engaged with Government Departments and agencies. Victorian Civil Construction Industry Alliance • Providing access to the range of specialist skills and networking opportunities available within the Alliance, especially for the smaller interest groups. • Representatives of the Alliance met separately with both the Minister for Local Government, Hon. Natalie Hutchins MP and her Chief of Staff, Robert Larocca to discuss the impact of Local Government rate capping on the industry sector. • Meetings conducted with the Deputy Chief Executive of VicRoads, Peter Todd, to discuss matters relating to the maintenance and operation of Victoria’s Arterial Roads network. • Representation on State Government Working Group, (established under the chairmanship of The Parliamentary Secretary to The Treasurer), to address the matter of the Registration of Engineers. • Business Forums were conducted with the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio, Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Minister for Suburban Development, Daniel Mulino, Parliamentary Secretary to The Treasurer, and the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Matthew Guy MP. With a current membership of more than 20 industry groups, the Alliance continued to provide a vehicle by which the Government can engage with a broad cross section of the civil construction sector in achieving the efficient delivery and maintenance of infrastructure. Our Achievements Adopting a collegiate approach, the Alliance continued to provide a vehicle for engagement to deliver positive outcomes for members including... • Advocacy to Government on the need to increase the capacity of the civil construction sector in response to, or influencing, Government policy. • Assisting in the dissemination of industry information to Alliance Members, stakeholders and key Government representatives. • Facilitating and cooperating with other relevant alliances and employer groups. WHAT’S AHEAD? • In November 2016, the Committee of Management formed a sub-committee to conduct further research in supporting Roads Australia and Engineers Australia advocacy to Government in addressing the cost of tendering. This work will continue in the year ahead. • At its June 2017 meeting, the Committee of Management agreed to form a sub-committee to consider 3-4 key issues for advocacy work in the lead up to the 2018 State electi on. • Business Forums and networking events will be opened up to respective Alliance Board members for access to key Government Ministers and advisors. After 12 years at the helm, we acknowledge the enormous contribution of VCCIA President - Bob Seiffert, who stepped down during the year. CCF Victoria CEO, John Kilgour was appointed as VCCIA President, WEF March 2017. • Exchange of information on best practice initiatives pursued by Alliance Members. 29
