OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY
Our FocuS
Our goals continue to be simply stated …. “NO
ACCIDENTS, NO HARM TO PEOPLE AND NO DAMAGE
TO THE ENVIRONMENT”.
Safety in the workplace continues to be our number 1
priority in our engagement, representation and advocacy
work for and on behalf of members.
Our Achievements
•
CCF submission to the Occupational Health and
Safety Regulations 2007 (OHS Regulations) review. A
major area of concern was on proposed OHS Regulations
changes relating to Part 3.6, High Risk Work, Schedule 3
Part 1 – Dogging with a CCF submission seeking a new
license being issued, i.e. civil lift loader.
•
Continued delivery and support for Drug and
Alcohol workshops with a new Community partnering
arrangement established with Life Again Foundation,
supporting men’s health issues.
•
Established a new OHS & QA servicing
arrangement for members with Peter Kaneen (BTS Global)
that will provide both initial Health & Safety advice and
contractual services.
•
Commenced update of CCF’s Code of
Management to support our IMS and Certified Contractor
System. (Release 3Q 2017).
•
Through representation on the AS 1742.3 Traffic
Management Regulations, CCF made a submission to the
working group in preparation for public comment prior to
adoption in December 2017.
WHAT’S AHEAD?
We will continue our focus on facilitating the reduction
of sector related injuries in relation to manual handling;
slips, trips and falls from earthmoving equipment; working
at heights near excavations; emergency preparedness;
and trench safety.
•
Seek a definitive view from Worksafe on the
interpretation of civil ‘dogging’ and whether this is within
the scope of the recently released OHS Regulations .
•
Prepare and deliver a series of metropolitan
and regional seminars on sector relevant OH&S issues
including key changes emanating from the new OHS
Regulations effective 1 July 2017.
•
Facilitate development and delivery of
appropriate training programs that drive improved
awareness, safety culture and compliance amongst civil
contractors working in locations presenting a high risk i.e.
trench safety, working at heights, and confined space.
•
Embed our new OH&S Contract Management
Service arrangement within CCF Operations that will drive
industry “best practice”.
•
Actively supported Worksafe’s “Safe Worker and
Traffic” Construction Safety Focus (SWAT) and VicRoads
“Towards Zero” campaigns via regular Bulletin and e-news
updates relating to improved hazard awareness, increased
knowledge of legal duties / voluntary management risks
and increasing Worksafe’s detection and rectification
rates for non-compliance with OHS laws, particularly in
association with traffic management.
•
Developed “What We Stand For” Civil Contractor
Safety Rules to raise safety behaviours and practices in the
industry, with a particular focus on the Land Development
Sector… (Release with updated CCF Code of Management
- 3Q 2017).
