Little Cayman
Bloody Bay
If there’s one thing Little Cayman is
famous for, its scuba diving. Divers
from around the world flock to this tiny
Caribbean island just to experience
the wonder of Bloody Bay. The dive
site is particularly popular due to
its rare vertical formation. Expect to
see everything from pipehorses and
sharks to sea turtles!
Profile: Southern Cross Club
We sat down with Jennifer Mills, the General Manager
at Southern Cross Club, to learn more about one of
Little Cayman’s most private resorts.
Point of Sand
At the eastern tip of Little Cayman
lies Point of Sand, one of the most
secluded beaches on the island and
the one that offers the best swimming.
Unlike your typical beach, the water
at Point of Stand remains ankle deep
for 15 feet before gradually dropping
off, making it a fantastic spot for
sunbathing and going for a dip. Oh,
and keep your eyes peeled because
just five miles across the water is
Cayman Brac!
Owen Island
Owen Island is a small, unpopulated
islet that can only be reached by
boat (or paddleboard). There are no
buildings on the island, making it the
ultimate spot for a secluded ultra-
romantic picnic on the beach.
Luxury Accommodation
Established in 1958, Southern
Cross Club was the first resort
to open on Little Cayman and
to this day, remains one of the
most luxurious properties in the
Sister Islands. Known for offering
guests the utmost privacy,
Southern Cross Club offers 14
guesthouses and has a typical
occupancy of just 30 people.
Despite the intimate guest
count, it is home to 900 feet of
unspoiled beach. All rooms have
an ocean view and 90% of them
are what the resort considers
“oceanfront,” meaning when you
set foot outside your guesthouse,
you’re just steps from the water.
Even more, Southern Cross
Club’s unique location on the
island features breathtaking
views out onto South Hole
Sound and Owen Island (be sure
to grab a complimentary kayak
during your stay and explore
this unpopulated islet!). With
no televisions or phones in the
rooms and WiFi available in the
clubhouse only, it really is the
perfect spot to “escape from
it all.”
Honeymoon Vibes
The resort has become a
hotspot amongst honeymooners
thanks to its tranquil setting
and intimate setup. The super-
secluded waterfront Honeymoon
Bungalow is set on the far
eastern end of the property,
and even has its own outdoor
shower! More than the suite
itself, the resort can organize
private upper deck dinners with
incredible views of the island, as
well as hammock hut dinners on
the beach at no extra charge.
As if that weren’t enough, Little
Cayman lends itself perfectly
to newlywed couples seeking
romance, relaxation, adventure,
or all of the above! Since the
island’s population reaches just
170 people at its peak, there is
very little traffic and absolutely
zero “hustle and bustle.” Picture
leisurely bike rides, picnics on
secluded beaches, afternoons
spent kayaking to Owen Island
or paddleboarding on the sound.
For those after something a
little more exhilarating, Southern
Cross Club offers scuba diving
and fishing packages that can
be pre-booked or booked à la
carte upon arrival (and no need
to worry about being herded
around with a group of rowdy
spring breakers, Southern Cross
Club’s excursions max out at 14
people).
Saying “I Do” in Paradise
More than a honeymoon hotspot,
Southern Cross Club is also
available for weddings, so if
you’re a beach bride at heart
who still hasn’t found that perfect
venue, read on! The property
specializes in small, intimate
island celebrations that take
place on the beach right in front
of the resort. If you’re looking for
something even more secluded,
the resort can even arrange for a
wedding on Owen Island.
