The spell was broken, but still he held me. “She was feeling a little faint. Small wonder if you’re working her to the bone,” Athena stormed across the room, grasping my jaw forcing me to looking into her eyes. “We’ll discuss this later. Leave us,” she wrenched me from his grasp, and I stumbled, scrambling to my feet. “Go!” her voice reverberated, and I ran from the room, nursing my aching jaw, understanding now how she could command armies. Once out of sight, I slowed, hid behind the column. “I’ve warned you before Poseidon. Don’t let me catch you handling my maidens again. They are mine.” she warned, thunder in her eyes. “Poseidon!” I whispered. I peered around the column, taking in an impressive view. He was tall, his hair long and dark, thickly muscled legs displayed under a short tunic. His hair was dark, long and wavy. His bronzed chest perfectly sculpted, every muscle clearly defined. He was gorgeous! And he fancied me. What a triumph. “Jealous, cousin?” he ran his finger down the side of her face. “Of you? Never.” She drew in closer, pressed herself against him, and my green eyed monster awoke. She ran her fingers along his arms, grasped his trident, and drew away holding it. “So this is the infamous trident,” she held it aloft, and the air fizzled. “Is that all it can do?” Poseidon sauntered to her throne, sitting languidly, limbs artfully posed. “It’s much like this chair. It depends on who uses it.” She hurled the trident at him, and he caught it easily, air crackled. She was doused in water. “How dare you. GET OFF MY THRONE and out of my temple now!” “I’m sorry Thene, I couldn’t resist. Here’s your chair,” he stood, positioning himself behind the throne, as she seated herself. “Why are you here Si? Don’t you have someone else to annoy, a few fish to scare?” “Don’t be petty.” He sat at her feet. “I came to talk to you about the city. You’re away so much with the army, why don’t you let me look after Athens?” “No, I’ve told you before. She is mine!” 12 Cauldron Anthology
