FROM THE GOLF SHOP “TEAM CLEMSON” PREVAILS RULES OF GOLF Rule 14-3 addresses Artificial Devices and Unusual Equipment. The following is Decision 14-3/12.5: Q. A player places a bottled drink Congratulations to the 30 golfing supporters of Clemson University for defeating those representing The University of Georgia in the First Annual “Cateechee Clash.” The final score was Clemson - 1376 to Georgia -1412. A great time was had by all who participated and enjoyed being part of the first edition of a new Cateechee tradition. In addition to the round of golf, each player received breakfast, lunch, and great tee gifts representative of their team. Each player from the winning side also received a $20 Cateechee gift card, as well as having their photo next to the team trophy for the year. A couple of players even walked away with brand new golf bags for winning Closest to the Pin contests. We also raised $500 for a new junior golf foundation, Hart Junior Golf Society, set to kick off in 2014. For more information about this foundation, please contact Jeff. Thanks also goes to The Hart Chamber of Commerce and our many sponsors, seeing the benefits of this tournament for our community and becoming ideal partners for “The Cateechee Clash.” See you in 2014!! Pics below and on front cover are from the Cateechee Clash! on the putting green in order to gauge the slope of the green. Is the player in breach of Rule 14-3? A. Yes. The player is using equipment in an unusual manner to assist him in his play contrary to Rule 14-3. However, if placing the bottle on the putting green was not for the purpose of gauging the slope, the player would not be in breach of Rule 14-3. THE PENALTY FOR BREACH OF RULE 14-3 — DISQUALIFICATION. GOTHAM QUALIFIES FOR NATIONAL EVENT Our very own Director of Golf, Jeff Gotham, is one of eight Georgia PGA Professionals to play their way into the 2013 PGA Senior Professional Championship. With one player already exempt for the tournament, this left seven remaining spots for which to play. Forty-five players teed it up at Settindown Creek, near Alpharetta, on September 9 & 10. Jeff ’s two day total of 146 (2 over par) over the challenging layout was good enough to capture the 5th spot. Jeff will travel to northern Virginia to play in the Championship, which begins October 10. MASON BOWERS, SENIOR ASST. SUPERINTENDENT ON THE GREEN The turf care team was really busy during September with frequent mowing and management practices. We anticipate good conditions on the course for the upcoming months. The aerification went as scheduled and results were good. The greens will take a few weeks to recover but we are certain they will be back in shape soon. The over-seeding with winter rye grass went really well. We will have to be cart path only for several weeks until it is established. We will also be hitting off the range mats for several months to keep our practice tee in optimum shape. The nursery green at the back of the driving range has been replanted. The nursery plays an important role in keeping our greens in excellent condition as it will be used to repair any spots that get damaged during the year. We would also like to say a big “THANK YOU” to the members that came out and took part in the divot repair party. Your contribution was very beneficial. The clubhouse grounds are in excellent shape. We are scheduled to plant our annual flowers the second week in October. We will be planting a wide variety of pansies and ornamental kale plants that we feel will bring beautiful color to the club.
