FROM THE GOLF SHOP THE BIG HOLE SHAMBLE Camille Caballero & Kathy Heriford were the winners of “The Big Hole Shamble” held on Sunday, May 4. Their team net score of 46 for 18 holes, where 8” cups were in play on every green, was good enough for a two shot victory. Finishing in 2nd place was Jean Kidd and Katherine Reusing, followed by Jack and Janet Latone in 3rd. Thanks to the field of 44 players that helped kick off our first “Member Only Sunday”. Mark your calendars to participate in the next event, Sunday, July 6 at 9:00 am. SUPER-SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP A new tradition is being started this July 14 & 15. CLEMSON Friday, August 29 The first ever “Cateechee Clash” event, held last August, was a rousing success. Players sported various apparel options in support of their allied teams while enjoying “friendly battle” on the golf course. Cateechee members will have a pre-registration opportunity to sign up to secure their positions before we open it up to other players. Stop by the golf shop for additional information. Last year’s winner – Clemson! CAPTAIN CHARLIE EISON AND TEAM RED WIN THE 2014 BARTON CUP! ON THE GREEN MASON BOWERS, SENIOR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT The summer months we have longed for are finally here, and bringing with them beautiful days at Cateechee. The bird boxes are alive with little hatchlings. It is nice to see the variety of beauty that nature offers us around the club. We have a lot of improvement projects planned, and with only so many hours in a day, we are prioritizing our decisions based on feedback from our members and their guests. We recently renovated two bunkers on #17 and will continue to do further work with the bunkers as we go through the summer months. There are also plans in place to repair the pond on #2 as soon as time allows. The greens are doing really well with the change in the temperature. I am confident that our greens will be in excellent condition this summer thanks to the hard work and dedication of our turf care team. We are sure that with hand watering and venting, we can handle the summer heat. The Bermuda Grass in the fairways and tees are coming in thick and we are showing good growth in those areas. The ryegrass will be phasing out as the warmer temperatures progress, but with growth of the Bermuda, I don’t foresee any problems. The tennis facilities are open and ready for play. Schedule a match in the pro shop with Dustin or Walt. We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the clay. Please don’t forget to leave us feedback that can help us improve your experience with us and we look forward to seeing you around the club. As always thank you for supporting Cateechee Golf Club. See you around the club! w w w. c a t e e c h e e . c o m Cateechee Chronicle | July/August 2014
