Introducing the

Integrated Management of the Yallahs & Hope River Watershed Management Areas Project

The Integrated Management of the Yallahs and Hope River Watershed Management Areas Project is a 5 year programme being implemented by the National Environment and Planning Agency within its remit for environment and planning.

Under the project, local stakeholders and national partners collaborate to manage and protect the various animals , plants, organisms (biodiversity) and lands in the Yallahs and Hope River Watershed Management Units (WMUs).

Over the years, destructive human practices or activities have resulted in both WMUs being two of the island's most severely degraded areas. A degraded watershed management unit reduces the quality and quantity of water supply and negatively affects the quality of life enjoyed by Jamaicans. Protecting these areas will help Jamaicans who depend on these natural resources to earn a living, raise their families and sustain them for future generations.
