atop mobile homes in the middle of the desert at 2:25am.
That sometimes life is lonely and down right frustrating,
but its okay to let the silence in, and sometimes it’s even
comforting to find it. I learned that Save-A-Lot has the best
Mac Salad and how to walk up and talk to someone first
instead of waiting for things to come to you. I learned that
Uber pool is the single best creation in the world and that
finding adventures small or large are always more fun than
another drunken night out. I learned to open my eyes and
participate in this world around us instead of watching it
go by and that betting on yourself is always worth it. That
when you doubt yourself and find a breaking point, the
world will surprise you and you will surprise yourself.
One defining moment of my summer was something that
my best friends call the breaking point. That moment that
they wait for each summer. That moment that you might
not notice when it comes unless you’re waiting patiently.
Something that in that very moment is the pebble thrown
in a river. It’s the ripple effect that will define your summer.
The spark to the end of the firework.
Mine this past summer was the moment we decided that
we could make an equal trade for our dear twin beach
cruisers for a month car rental. This car bought us the
freedom we desperately wanted, but definitely couldn’t
afford. It bought the freedom to chase the sunset, cut the
fog of the sunrise, snag a weekend getaway, or late night
trips to In & Out. However trivial this may sound, this was
the beginning of feeling home. This was the beginning
of living instead of counting pennies and hiding inside.
Instead of weighing the cost of taking a 45-minute bus ride
and a 15-minute walk to almost miss the fireworks on the
4th of July. It meant anything it wanted it to be and it was
exactly what we needed.
