Catalyst • Junior Secondary Curriculum • Handbook 2019 Guildford Grammar School Sporting Competition Apart from two well-equipped gymnasiums and two heated swimming pools, Guildford Grammar School utilises some 40 hectares of playing fields, comprising rugby grounds, football ovals, hockey pitches, turf wickets, tennis, basketball and netball courts, plus additional areas for net practice and general games. Rowing takes place on the nearby Swan River. Winter Boys’ Sport Cross Country Football Hockey Sport in the Senior School is compulsory and there is a wide range of choices. Rugby Soccer Boys’ Sport Boys at the Senior School compete in the PSA competition. Their sport is arranged along the following lines: Winter season Term 2 and 3: Football, Hockey, Rugby, Cross-Country Running and Soccer. Athletics is conducted in Term 3 and is compulsory for those boys selected to compete. Summer season Term 1 and 4: Cricket, Tennis, Basketball, Swimming, Rowing, Volleyball and Water Polo Please note: • Rowing is only available to boys in Years 8 – 12 Boys’ Sport • Some sport codes train before school Summer Two sports training afternoons take place each week. Boys may also be selected to represent the School in inter-school matches at weekends. Basketball Cricket All boys in Years 7, 8 and 9 have training sessions from 3.45pm to 5.00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, and play PSA inter-school matches, if selected, at 2.00 pm on Fridays. Swimming Tennis Those not involved in school matches may have organised training on Friday afternoons. All these sessions are compulsory. Volleyball Water polo Rowing (not offered in Year 7) Please note that current students are not required to make sport selections. Existing sport allocations will always automatically roll over into the following year. Should a current student wish to change their sport selections for 2019, they must complete the Change of Sport Application Form available from Senior School Administration 50
