2017 Park Foundation Accomplishments
Distributed $ 1,500 in scholarship dollars to three Cary-Grove High School students . The annual scholarship program has distributed $ 4,000 to local students . The criteria to be considered include significant employment or volunteer experience with the Cary Park District .
Supported senior programming at the Kraus Senior Center . The dollars contributed have assisted in making these programs , trips , and special events more affordable and enjoyable for the active adult population of Cary .
The Foundation partnered with the Park District to sponsor a 2017 Summer Concert Series night at Lions Park . The Foundation contributed a food truck , additional children ’ s entertainment , as well as , free giveaways of gift certificates for Park District programming .
As part of Luau Day at the Cary Pool the Foundation hosted a “ Chuck A Duck ” where by those who purchased a duck were given the opportunity to “ chuck ” their duck at a target in the pool . One winner received a $ 250 gift certificate .
What ’ s Next ?
For the remainder of 2017 and into 2018 the Foundation Board will be developing a two year strategic plan for their activities . This plan will serve to align future activities and events with the larger purpose of the Foundation which is “ Helping the Cary Park District Do More ”. As the Park District continues its implementation of its Comprehensive Master Plan Update 2016 , the Foundation will focus on enhancing these projects and initiatives . Right now these include a Disc Golf Course to open in Hoffman Park late summer / early fall 2018 and the revitalization / improvement projects for both Kaper and Lions Parks .
