Longest Overhead Bridge in Sri Lanka

On the 6th of June, Deputy Mini-ster Harsha de Silva and Minister Lakshman Kiriella inaugurated the construction of the 534 metre long Overhead Bridge at Rajagiriya. Expected to complete by 2018, the bridge will cost an estimated Rs.5 billion, which will be funded by the government of Spain.

Electric Car Charging

EWIS Peripherals (Pvt) Ltd and EV Point (Pvt) Ltd has collaborated to launch one of the world’s leading standardised electric vehicle charging stations in Negombo. Inaugurated on the 31st of May, the charging station is equipped with charging points that uses the leading “Rapid Charging” techno– logy that allows electric vehicle batteries to be charged in less than 20 minutes. The EV Points also comes with NFC payment capab– ilities for a smoother and seamless transaction.

CEAT Tyres Investing to Increase Radial Capacity

CEAT has pledged to invest Rs.800 million within the coming 12 months to increase its radial tyre manufacturing capacity in Sri Lanka, which should see its production increase by 75 percent, to 70,000 tyres per month from its current capacity of 40,000. The company is already responsible for nearly half of the country’s pneumatic tyre supply, which is comprised of 33 sizes including 20 for cars, 5 for SUVs and 8 sizes for van models.

Sri Lanka to Replace Three-Wheelers

The quadricycle Bajaj Qute is expected to be imported to Sri Lanka in order to replace the Three-Wheelers. Powered by a water cool– ed 217 cc single-cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox, the Qute claims a 70 km/h top speed and a 36 km/l fuel economy.
