Campaign with us: Carersuk.org/news/campaigns Here at Carers UK we are calling on national governments to take immediate action to make a difference to carers’ lives and achieve the following: • Give carers a break and provide funding and a choice of quality services to enable carers to take the breaks they need. • Ensure carers are able to juggle work and care, if they wish to, with support to return to work alongside or after caring. • Put in place enough funding so that older people and people with disabilities are able to access the quality and affordable care they need and that carers are able to have a life alongside caring roles. • Ensure that carers and their families do not suffer financial hardship as a result of caring. • Deliver a National Health Service that recognises, values and supports carers. One in ten carers This year we’re particularly campaigning to improve access to breaks for carers, to increase Carer’s Allowance (see page 13) and for a new right to paid time off work to care. In the Autumn, the Government will be publishing new proposals on how adult social care will be funded in England and along with their new long-term plan for the NHS the new proposals could have important repercussions for families not just in England but in the whole UK. We know too that social care and the NHS will again be at the top of the agenda this year. We want to make sure that pressure on carers is at the centre of discussions about more funding and the results of the State of Caring report will give us much needed evidence to do this. @carersuk /carersuk 10 % feel confident that the support they receive and rely upon will continue Half of unpaid carers 50 % said they expect their quality of life to get worse in the next 12 months 20 % said they cut back on essentials such as food and heating to cope 15
