Carers UK Poem-a-thon
We held our first ever Carers UK Poem-a-thon in London on
Saturday 16 June, as part of our Carers Week celebrations.
It was a really enjoyable day with 45 people reading for just
over 6.5 hours, signifying the UK’s 6.5 million carers. There
were lots of moving moments, as well as quite a few laughs!
Highlights included:
Cicely Herbert, one of the founders of Poems on the
Underground, opening the event by reading a few
poems about London
• Priya Amlani, a volunteer with Carers UK supporters
Neasden Temple, doing her first ever poetry reading
• Our Chairman David Grayson reading a couple of poems
on a live Skype link
• Catching up with lots of carers who have been featured
in our creative writing anthologies in the past
• Fantastic readings from our Patrons Tiggy and Johnnie
Walker and their friends - actors Michael Maloney, Pippa
Haywood, Paul Venables and Timothy Watson, novelist
Rachel Joyce, and Radio 4 presenter Fi Glover
• Readings from long-standing Carers UK members
Cherna Crome, Anne Blanche and Caroline Toll
• Our creative writing judge Cheryl Moskowitz doing the
final reading
•
We raised over £3,000 to support our vital work on campaigning for carers’ rights and providing
information, support and advice to carers when they need it most.
Thank You - Rosemary Lilian Watt MBE
Carers UK is deeply grateful to our members and supporters who choose
to leave us a gift in their will.
In this issue, we would like to pay tribute to Rosemary Lilian Watt OBE,
one of our Inaugural Members who kindly choose to support us in this
way.
Rosemary cared for her ageing parents, Nevill and Eleanor Watt, until they
passed away, and remained an active member of Carers UK.
Carers UK relies on voluntary donations (such as gifts in wills) to carry out
our charitable activities. If you are interested to learn more about how
a gift in your will could help our supportive community and movement
for change, please get in touch with our Fundraising Team on
