Carers Week 2018
Monday 11 - Sunday 17 June
Caring can be a hugely
rewarding experience,
enriching relationships and
bringing satisfaction and
wellbeing. However, caring
for others often comes at a
cost to carers’ own health
and wellbeing as they put
their own health needs to
the back of the queue.
Carers UK is once again
joining forces with seven
major charities to raise the
profile of caring and reach
out to more people who
might not have thought of
themselves as carers before.
Carers Week 2018 will be
looking at all the ways we
can support carers to stay
Healthy and Connected.
Building communities which
support carers to look after
their loved ones well, while
recognising that they are
individuals with health and
wellbeing needs of their
own.
22
We will be supporting a
wealth of local activity
aimed at helping as many
carers as possible to get the
information and practical
support they need to look
after their own health
alongside caring; to care
safely without harming their
own physical and mental
health, get the right advice
and financial support to
be able to stay fit and eat
healthily. Carers need access
to breaks – from a few hours
to a couple of weeks – to
recharge their batteries,
enjoy some physical activity
or socialise with friends or
family.
Carers Week is seeking
to engage as widely as
possible with all parts of our
communities who have a
part to play in supporting
carers.This could include
an employer creating
Carer Friendly policies by
listening to the experiences
of their workforce, a GP
practice offering an annual
health check or alternative
appointment times to carers
struggling to attend due to
their caring responsibilities,
or a leisure centre offering
special deals for carers.
