girl Scouts Heart of Central california WE'RE G.I.R.L.S.: GO-GETTERS, INNOVATORS, RISK-TAKERS & LEADERS I f you thought Girl Scouting was just cookies, crafts and camping, think again. Girl Scouts Heart of Central California (GSHCC) is developing cutting-edge programs and experiences that energize and inspire girls ages 5-17. Whether a girl is interested in outdoor adventure, engineering and robots, preserving the environment, healthy living or just developing a solid group of friends who will stand by her through thick and thin, Girl Scouts is where it happens. “Through Girl Scouting, girls discover that they all have an inner go-getter, innovator, risk-taker and leader,” says Dr. Linda Farley, Chief Executive Officer of GSHCC. “It’s that can-do attitude that helps build the leaders of tomorrow.” Each year, GSHCC helps more than 18,000 local girls develop healthy relationships, seek changes in the world, become resourceful problem-solvers, and identify and address community needs. Local Girl Scouts have the opportunity to participate in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) programming that expands each girl’s concept of what is possible. Our GLOW (Girls Leading Our Way) conference connects young women with top female professionals to guide their career exploration. Coming later this year: our region’s first girls-only MakerSpace! The GSHCC MakerSpace will contribute to innovation, collaboration and creation. This groundbreaking venture will include coding and computing areas, a fabrication unit, maker-tinker spaces and collaborative, creative zones where girls can work together to design and explore. As the young chair of our MakerSpace task force says, “We are girl-led and girl built!” To learn more about Girl Scouting and find out how you can help local girls find their inner go-getter, innovator, risk-taker and leader, visit GIRLSCOUTSHCC.ORG | 800.322.4475 94 CAPITAL REGION CARES 2017 | PROFILE SPONSORED BY
