CLEAN LEAF's Start

by Yan Li, M.D., Ph.D

Jim considered being a doctor when he was going to school, but he went another direction. Through Clean Leaf this is almost like his redemption to take advantage of a situation to help people because he went a different route in the past.

Jim also felt like everything that happened in his life drove him this direction - to be working in the areas he is now, from his wife Tina having Endometrial Cancer to his daughter having Psoriasis. His first son Eric had a stroke at the age of 4 with many seizures that ended up disabling him mentally, and he still cannot function normally today. His other son Zach has Crohn’s disease

Jim used to shake like he had Parkinson's and his doctors basically prescribed him anything and everything to try to see what would work for him. Nothing really was cutting it.

Jim’s Mom died when he was 10, and she had Crohn's ileitis and Colitis. Both of Jim’s sisters have Crohn's pretty bad, and his son Zach has Crohn's as well.

Jim's goal of the company starting was to come up with something that can treat Crohn's disease effectively.

When he first broke his neck, they put him on the brain injury floor instead of the spinal floor because it was so severe. His injuries are almost identical to Christopher Reeve's.

It took Jim 3 years to learn how to stand and walk again. Another guy that got hurt around the same time was in rehab with him, and he said his doctor told him to start smoking weed.

After 3 years and going to his neurosurgeon, Jim’s doctor said between smoking weed and taking the 8 morphine pills a day he was ingesting, weed might be a better alternative. This was Jim's first time smoking marijuana ever in his life, and after taking a couple hits his shaking stopped. At first he thought it was just psychological and a placebo effect.

A few days later, he had to go to a hockey tournament called the chowder cup in boston and didn’t bring anything with him other than his prescribed medication. By the time he got back to Texas he could barely walk into his house because he was shaking so bad, and after trying smoking again to see if it would help the shakes went away. They did. That was when jim knew that he needed to start a company in the marijuana industry to help people, starting with his family as his main purpose because of their conditions and his own.

Jim spent years traveling between california and colorado to learn about the marijuana industry, because he really had no idea what he was getting himself into in that area. After learning about different parts of the industry, he discovered THC free CBD oil extracted from industrial hemp, and seeing the amazing therapeutic effects first hand, he decided that that was the direction best suited for his vision.
