CANNAHEALTH Rediscovering Hemp | Page 4

GRATITUDE

From the Editor

Greetings CANNAHEALTH Readers,

As an informative tool used to educate the community, CANNAHEALTH strives to provide an eclectic perspective on health and total wellness using Cannabis. Through this approach we aim to plant a seed of information therefore encouraging you, the reader, to learn, discover and grow more from the knowledge provided to you. This seed is no different as we focus on Hemp, the crop of the future!

Hemp is a remarkable versatile natural resource. It is a derivative of Cannabis Sativa containing less than 1% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and also referred to as industrial hemp. Unlike other crops, hemp can grow in most climates and farmlands throughout the world with moderate water and fertilizer requirements, no pesticides and no herbicides. It can produce significant quantities of high quality paper, textiles, building materials, food, medicine, paint, detergent, oil and fuel. Hemp has enormous potential to become a major natural resource that can benefit both the economy and the environment.

History dates from 1776 to 1937 when hemp was a major American crop and textile yet The American Textile Museum, The Smithsonian Institute, and most American history books contain no mention of hemp (Hempbasics.com, 2017). In early Colonial America it was rumored that George Washington and John Adams grew hemp, used hemp infused products and advocated for the hemp plant in some of their writings (constiutioncenter.org, 2017).

Fortunately, today hemp is wildly promoted. This is stimulated by innovative technologies that make hemp suitable for industrial

paper manufacturing, use as a renewable energy

source and the use of hemp derivatives as

replacement for chemical products. In addition,

as people become more health conscious and

choose more organic choices, health foods have

stimulated hemp seed use and body care products

are increasingly being manufactured with hemp!

No other natural resource offers the potential

of hemp and the world is slowly coming to this

realization. Hemp is the now and future!

Wishing You a Warm & Happy Holiday,
