The article did not mention what type of drug he died of or if it was an opiate but this may unfortunately be another senseless death in the US opioid crisis (USA Today, 2017). We know he did not die from an overdose of marijuana because the user would need to consume 1500 pounds of marijuana in 15 minutes for it to be lethal, it has never been done (MM411, 2016). The cannabis industry has the same needs as any other industry. Staffing & human resources, customer service, training, education & development, processing & production, financial services, insurance, agriculture, and chemical engineering. I see many degrees that can be of use in this industry if made legal across the country. Per the Department of Labor, Colorado has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country at 2.3% in June 2017.
Is it a coincidence that Colorado has legal medicinal and recreational marijuana and has for a while? My organization offers all business services along with membership, advocacy, pre-paid attorney services, trend analysts and a formalized lobbing body for medicinal and recreational marijuana laws. I will say I am as intrigued by this industry as my late grandmother was interested in prohibition. She gave me my first taste of (Peach Schnapps) I recall and something called snuff. My parents would have been mortified if they knew. I can see Madea taking a medicinal toke if she needed it. Maybe if we all take a step back, realize the healing properties of marijuana and allow the research then the cannabis industry medicinal and recreational can be managed correctly and safely. And yes, it is still very risky to enter this industry now with any degree, but I believe in the healing properties of marijuana and with no risk comes no reward. I’m in it for the long haul.
