they had any concerns about their use of marijuana.

The last question turned out to be a real eye-opener for me. The survey respondents were asked about their health concerns related to their use of marijuana and I included a list of options for them to consider: no concerns, risk of addiction, risk of arrest, harmful to their body (heart, lungs, liver, etc.), harmful to their mind, harmful to their developing baby if used during pregnancy, risk of contamination, and “other”.

To my surprise, 25 respondents checked the “other” box and reported that they were using it as medicine for; pain management, sleep, migraines, asthma, spasticity related to multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury, premenstrual syndrome, nausea and vomiting, morning sickness, glaucoma, and for managing stress.

I had heard that marijuana was good for chemo-induced nausea and vomiting, but the other uses were new to me. As a result, I began to learn about the history of marijuana and discovered the rich history of the medical use of the Cannabis plant and that the “marijuana” prohibition, which began in the 1930s was based on lies, greed and racism.
