Going Green? Israel to ease medical cannabis red tape next month

Starting in August, approximately 100 physicians will be able to grant licenses to patients who require medical cannabis to obtain it directly from their health fund clinics, Health Ministry associate director-general Prof. Itamar Grotto told the Knesset Committee on Drug Abuse on Tuesday.

Committee chairman MK Tamar Zandberg said: “The news that came out this morning from the ministry is encouraging, and we will continue to monitor and ensure that it is implemented. But it is not enough.

Greece legalizes marijuana

for medical purposes

Doctors will soon be able to prescribe the drug for several medical uses. Greece has become the latest European country to legalize marijuana for medical purposes.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said last week that doctors will soon be able to prescribe the drug for a variety of medical conditions. Cannabis is

normally prescribed for conditions like muscle spasms, chronic pain, PTSD, epilepsy and cancer. “From now on, the country is turning its page, as Greece is now included in countries where the delivery of medical cannabis to patients in need is legal.” Mr Tsipras said at a press conference, as reported by the Greek Government Gazette.

Greece is the sixth EU country to take this action after the Czech Republic, Finland, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain have already legalised the drug for medical use. ­­Click to Continue Reading
