The History
The Rolling Stone Magazine article noted that “it all started in 2008, on Mitt Romney's presidential campaign trail, in a hotel in the small town of Elko in northwest Nevada”. You see, Joe Brezny, Romney's state director at the time, was caught by the Secret Service Advance Team, due to the unmistakable and familiar smell coming from from his room. “Brezny apologized, and the agent agreed not to tell, but warned him of the seriousness of the offense – he could lose his job, even his career.” This led to teaming up with Neal Levine, then of the Marijuana Policy Project, and the two got to work creating a program to make recreational cannabis legal in the State of Nevada.
