The opportunities for massage therapists continue to grow. The demand for massage therapists outpaces all other healthcare professions as we make our way into every facet of healthcare. The body of massage therapy research seems to grow daily with support from the profession and it continues to prove that massage is good medicine. The care that we provide as massage therapists is more important than ever. In this information age, people are increasingly disconnected. As massage therapists we strive to reconnect our clients with themselves, decrease stress, anxiety and discomfort through touch. In a world where touch is increasingly associated with abuse and violence, we are reshaping people’s belief about what touch can be and creating an environment which in the words of Don Dillon RMT is “the antithesis to violence and aggressive behavior in society.” We are truly healing the world one massage treatment at a time. For over a decade, I’ve had the honour of providing in-person continuing education for massage therapist in North America and online education globally. In that time I have had the pleasure to work with some of the greatest and most committed educators on earth. It has also been such a pleasure to meet so many fabulous massage therapists, all with diverse backgrounds and inspiring stories of what attracted them to massage therapy. Every massage therapy event I’ve organized or attended has reignited my passion for the profession. As therapists we often feel isolated in our treatment rooms. Having the opportunity to exchange thoughts and share experiences with other like minded people is invaluable to the soul. I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones at the Canadian Massage Conference in Burlington September 28 - October 2. I’m also excited to have organized the first Health Professionals of India Conference in Mohali (Chandigarh) Punjab India, which takes place November 25-27, 2016. I was able to convince four of my favourite massage educators, Tina Allen, Eric Stephenson, Til Luchau and James Waslaski to come to India. These remarkable educators are giving up time with their families to share the gift of massage therapy with the people of India. You never know where a journey will take you when you begin your first steps and I find myself stepping into the role of School Director of the International Medical Massage Therapy Institute, the first massage therapy school in India. It will create opportunities for India’s youth that did not exist previously. As School Director I would like to invite Canadian and American massage therapy educators to come to India and share their knowledge and love for our profession. Please contact me at [email protected]. My name is Scott Dartnall and I am a Massage Therapist. 22 Canadian rmt Feature08_John_Scott.indd 22 2016-08-23 6:32 PM
