A champion’s success is based on what they learn about
themselves on the way, the challenges they overcome on
their journey, and what they need to do to become better
for tomorrow. Despite a loss at her first regional show,
one of my clients, Brittany Kanne, kept her eye on the big
picture and maintained her focus forward, learned from
"Never"
her mistakes, and every day continued to move one step
closer to her big goal. Her champion mindset paid off,
and come Nationals two years later, Brittany’s dream of
becoming an IFBB Pro was realized when she won the
Overall Fitness title. Champions always have a higher
expectation of themselves. When preparing for their
show, everyone knows that they should stick to their
diet, they should crush every workout, they should attack
each cardio session, and they should get to bed early to
optimize their recovery. But for the champion, they hold
themselves to a much higher standard. For the
champion, they never “should do” anything… they know
that to succeed they MUST DO those things to achieve
their goals. Anything less is unacceptable.
Years ago, during an interview after winning one of his
many Mr. Olympia titles, Ronnie Coleman was asked
how many times he cheated on his diet during his
contest preparation.
Ronnie replied, “Never.”
