Korg Volca Drum Digital Percussion
Synthesizer
Korg has released the Volca Drum physical-modeling drum synthesizer. This
percussion synth offers six dual-
layered parts for creating everything from commanding kicks and snappy snares to
a wide range of booms and blasts.
The Volca Drum features a sequencer and 16 motion sequencer parameters
for making grooves. Each sequencer part can have a different sequencer, making
it easy to create complex polyrhythms. Each of the six drum parts in Volca Drum
features two layers with five types of oscillator waveforms per layer. Users can choose
from sine wave, saw wave, or high-pass-filtered noise, then choose from three types of pitch modulation and amplifier envelopes. The effects
section offers a waveguide resonator based on physical modeling, and its Tube mode applies the resonance of a cylindrical object like a drum
body or a long pipe. The Strings mode generates the metallic resonance of a string.
