CMW 2017 Accepting Artist Showcase & Launch Pad Submissions Canadian Music Week is now accepting submissions for both artist showcases and the CMW Startup Launch Pad for its 2017 edition , which will take place from April 18-22 in Toronto .
The CMW Launch Pad is a pitch competition for new businesses that are based in or connected to the music industry .
There are 200 performance slots reserved for Sonicbids artists at CMW 2017 . Performing artists will also receive complimentary registration to CMW ’ s Music Summit 2017 , as well as a two-year membership to the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Music and reduced hotel rates .
For band showcase applications , the early bird rate deadline is Oct . 25 and the final deadline is Dec . 29 , 2016 . The Launch Pad deadline is March 6 , 2017 . For more information , go to ww . cmw . net .

SXSW 2017 Accepting Artist Submissions
South by Southwest is now accepting artist showcase submissions via Sonicbids until Oct . 21 , 2016 . The 2017 edition of SXSW , which is held annually in Austin , TX , will run from March 10-19 .
Over 100 Canadian acts performed at SXSW 2016 and more than 400 Canadian delegates made the trip to Texas , representing nearly every Canadian record label as well as media , PR , technology , and all other areas of the industry .

Submissions Open for 2017 East Coast Music Week & Awards The East Coast Music Association ( ECMA ) is now accepting submissions for the 2017 East Coast Music Awards and the East Coast Music Week ( ECMW ) festival and conference , which will be held from April 26-30 , 2017 in Saint John , NB . Submissions close on Oct . 3 , 2016 .
To prepare members for applying , the ECMA has released a 28-page Awards & Stages Manual online , which is a complete reference guide for all awards ( music , industry , and honourary ) and showcases . There is also a shorter Fast Facts guide in both English and French . The guides lay out the eligibility criteria for the awards and programs , as well as any changes to awards categories or programs since last year .

… Canadian music labels have begun receiving an additional $ 2 million in accelerated and additional royalty distributions through an efficiency and data improvement project by Connect Music Licensing and Re : Sound . There has been a 28 per cent decrease in administration costs , or $ 1.2 million annually , which will be paid out in additional royalties to Connect ’ s members , according to the organization . This is because rights holders represented by Connect now receive their neighbouring rights and private copying royalties directly from Re : Sound . The move also accelerates royalty distributions . Connect and Re : Sound have also synchronized their data in order to create a single repertoire database , which resulted in added royalties .

Folk Alliance International Accepting Artist Applications Folk Alliance International is accepting artist showcase applications until Oct . 3rd for its 29 th annual conference and showcase , which will be held Feb . 15-19 , 2017 in Kansas City , MO . FAI is the largest annual gathering of the folk music community and industry , featuring 200 official showcases and 2,500 delegates . Selected artists will have opportunities for performance , professional development , and networking with presenters , agents , managers , labels , and media .

… The Supreme Court of British Columbia has ordered torrent-sharing website isoHunt and its Vancouver-based founder , Gary Fung , to pay $ 66 million to Canadian and international record labels for knowingly enabling “ massive copyright infringement .” More than 20 Canadian and international music companies launched the lawsuit in 2010 . As part of the settlement , Fung and isoHunt also agreed “ not to be associated with any service that makes the music companies ’ recordings available without authorization , including by BitTorrent or any other file-sharing technology .”
