One-Third of Canadians Watched The Hip ’ s Final Concert

According to Numeris , the CBC ’ s commercial-free live broadcast of The Tragically Hip ’ s final concert on Aug . 20 th reached 11.7 million Canadians across all CBC television , radio , and digital platforms . The concert special was also streamed 900,000 times in Canada and around the world .
The nearly three-hour broadcast of The Tragically Hip : A National Celebration attracted an average minute audience of 4.04 million . The show at Kingston , ON ’ s K-Rock Centre capped off the band ’ s Man Machine Poem tour and is expected to be their last concert following the tragic announcement that lead singer Gord Downie has brain cancer . The broadcast event was the result of a partnership between CBC , The Tragically Hip , and Insight Productions .

Creative BC Launches Sound Recording Pilot Program

Creative BC has launched the British Columbia Sound Recording Pilot Program , which is part of the $ 15 million BC Music Fund . The program is meant to foster the long term sustainability of British Columbia ’ s sound recording industry and help the province ’ s studios attract Canadian and international business .
The Sound Recording Pilot Program will allow record labels and other eligible applicants to recoup 50 per cent of expenditures associated with recording activities up to a maximum of $ 75,000 . The program ’ s total budget is $ 500,000 and applications will be evaluated on a first come , first served basis until the budget is fully committed , or until Nov . 30 , 2016 .
Creative BC will announce additional programs on Oct . 18 , 2016 , to complement the four streams of the BC Music Fund .
