The decision to take that on was entirely to help advance the wom- en in rock cause. At the time, it was a very male-dominated landscape, and I wanted to help make an im- pact and dent in that – to help girls and women of the future. Now, 20-plus years later, I am proud to say I think we did, and the women today, who were girls then, had their sense of possibility expanded by seeing us up there expressing ourselves. CM: Is there anything technical you’ve been working on lately, or that you’d like to start work- ing on in order to further your bass playing? MAdM: After a lifetime of playing a Fender Precision, this expansion into a Guild semi-hollowbody is dramatic in that I am considering non-precision and more textures that a bass can offer to the world of soundscapes. He and I got along really well, and when he compiled a band for his solo album Troublizing, he invited me to play bass and do backups, and what a pleasure that was. It’s all about lovely and creative people that I relate to. That’s the only way I make any decisions in life, beyond music. My adventure in Hole was an ex- ception. I did not know them, and they were a concerning bunch with sad personal loss all around them. Kyle Cunjak Kyle Cunjak is arguably one of the busiest musicians in the talent-rich Atlantic Canadian music community. He’s a found- ing member of indie folk trio The Olympic Symphonium, reg- ular collaborator of acclaimed troubadour David Myles, and has lent his talents to recordings by Catherine MacLellan, Rose Cousins, The Good Lovelies, and many others. He’s also a founder of Halifax-based imprint For- ward Music Group and Fred- ericton, NB’s Shivering Songs Festival.
