The IFPI has named Drake as the world ’ s best-selling recording artist of 2016 , highlighting the huge success of his fourth album , 2016 ’ s Views . It was first album to reach one billion streams on Apple Music , while “ One Dance ” was the first song to be played one billion times on Spotify . Drake is the fourth recipient of the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year Award , an accolade that reflects an artist ’ s worldwide success across physical and digital formats , including downloads and streams . Fellow Canadians Justin Bieber and The Weeknd placed fifth and tenth on IFPI ’ s list , respectively .
Sarah McLachlan to Be Inducted into Canadian Music Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced the induction of “ Hand Me Down World ,” a hit song for The Guess Who in 1970 , written by bandmate and lead guitarist Kurt Winter . Produced by Jack Richardson , it appeared on the band ’ s 1970 album Share the Land .

CARAS has announced that multi-platinum , award-winning singer and songwriter Sarah McLachlan will be the 2017 inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame . With a career that spans almost 30 years , McLachlan has earned countless accolades , including 10 JUNO Awards , three Grammys , and a Billboard Music Award . She will be honoured with a tribute at the 46 th JUNO Awards in Ottawa on April 2 nd .
