Canadian DJ Show Tripling Panels & International Guests for 2016
The Canadian DJ Show presented by Pioneer DJ is returning to the Hilton Toronto Hotel from March 11-13 , 2016 .
CDJ Show organizers say they ’ re tripling the number of panels and international guests for this year ’ s show . Some of the seminars will include Sam Fleming , founder of Evolved Entertainment , discussing “ Future Proofing for DJs ,” while David Beal will present on “ Being the Diverse DJ with Ethnic Music ,” DJ Shine will discuss “ Everything Ableton ,” and DJ Vekked and DJ Brace will present their “ Turntablism 101 ” session .
On the Friday , the new Toolroom Academy segment will include a number of seminars , including Stuart Knight discussing careers in dance music and Grammy-nominated producer Funkagenda on building a track from scratch .

Live Nation Canada Acquires Union Events
Live Nation Canada has acquired the festival portfolio of Union Events , a major festival and concert promoter in Western Canada . The cost of the acquisition has not yet been disclosed .
Union Events ’ festivals , which include Alberta ’ s X-Fest , Sonic Boom , and Chasing Summer festivals , will join the growing roster of 10 Live Nation-produced festivals in Canada . Over the course of 2016 , Union Events will continue to promote its 400 concerts across the country as its concert bookings are integrated into the Live Nation Canada touring division , which produces over 1,200 shows annually .

SOCAN Revenue Tops $ 300M For First Time
SOCAN has released an early analysis of its 2015 financial results and says it set a new high for royalties identified , collected , and distributed to its 130,000-plus members by exceeding $ 300 million in total revenue for the first time in the organization ’ s history .
SOCAN set a new record for total revenue of approximately $ 310 million , which is an increase of at least three per cent over the record $ 299 million in 2014 . A corporate net expense ratio of nine per cent set another record for SOCAN .
In 2015 , there was at least $ 62 million in foreign royalties identified , collected , and distributed for SOCAN members whose music is played internationally on radio , television , online , onstage , and other public performance uses . This is a 14 per cent increase over 2014 and a 60 per cent increase since 2007 .
The total royalty distributions to members were approximately $ 275-million , which is a 15 per cent year-over-year increase .

BC Government Introduces New Music Fund
British Columbia Premier Christy Clark has announced a $ 15 million grant toward the creation of a BC Music Fund to help support various activities in the province ’ s music industry .
Clark made the announcement at a Music Canada event that included remarks by Michael Bublé , Sarah McLachlan , Music Canada President Graham Henderson , and others . The BC Music Fund will be administered through Creative BC and will help support activity in the music sector in order to diversify B . C .’ s economy , stimulate foreign direct investment , enhance music tourism , stimulate the creation and retention of jobs , and encourage increased activity in regional centres .
… Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi issued a proclamation declaring 2016 the “ Year of Music in Calgary ,” acknowledging the many music-related events happening in the city this year . In 2016 , Calgary will see the opening of Studio Bell , home of Canada ’ s National Music Centre , and also host the 45 th annual JUNO Awards . Additionally , the new Bella Concert Centre will open , the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate its 60 th anniversary , and the Alberta Ballet celebrates its 50 th anniversary this year .
