Whirlwind IMP 2 Direct Box Whirlwind has released the IMP 2 direct box, which converts a line or instrument level unbalanced signal to a low impedance mic level balanced signal. The IMP 2 features 1/4-in. parallel-wired High Z in/out jacks to input and “loop through” the source signal. These I/O jacks are wired in parallel, making no difference which one is used for input or output. The Low Z output (male XLR jack) provides a low-impedance (150 Ohms), balanced output suitable for connection to a mixing console. There is also a ground lift switch to help isolate hum and buzz, and the IMP 2 uses Whirlwind’s TRHL transformer. Moog Subharmonicon Semi-Modular Analog Polyrhythmic Synthesizer Moog Music is now shipping the Subharmonicon semi-modular analog polyrhythmic synthesizer. The newest addition to Moog’s range of semi-modular analog synthesizers – which also includes the Matriarch, Grandmother, Mother-32, and DFAM – the Subharmonicon is designed to offer complex sounds and patterns while still being simple to use. The Subharmonicon is a versatile analog labyrinth of subharmonicallyderived synthesis and polyrhythmic patterns. It is designed for the exploration of sequences that unfold and evolve over time, going through sixtone subharmonic chords and organic polyrhythms. It boasts two VCOs, four subharmonic oscillators, two four-step sequencers, and four rhythm generators. Although no patching is required to start creating, the Subharmonicon can be patched into itself, expanding its onboard capabilities, or interfaced with the Mother-32, DFAM, and other external Eurorack-compatible gear for more possibilities.
