LITTLE DESTROYER PERFORMING AT BREAKOUT WEST 2018 BreakOut West Bringing Showcases, Awards & Conference to Whitehorse Western Canada’s annual music industry conference and showcase festival, BreakOut West, is heading to Whitehorse, YT from Oct. 2-6, 2019. It’ll feature a four-day music in- dustry conference with a mix of educational sessions for both musicians and industry professionals, as well as a large festival with more than 55 showcasing bands and the annual Western Canadian Music Awards. BreakOut West says it’s organizing a “value-centric” conference, bringing together Canadian and international industry delegates with Canadian artists for panels and workshops that will provide workable solutions for growth beyond the region. Among those announced so far are sessions on tour strategies, activating alternative revenue streams, live A&R with music supervisors, and DIY versus tradition- al label releases. In total, there will be more than 20 panels, workshops, and sessions at the conference. CCMA Country Music Week Heading to Calgary The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) is bringing Country Music Week and the CCMA Awards to Calgary from Sept. 5-8, 2019. Country Music Week is made up of: a music festival, which includes the CCMA Fan Village, a Songwriters’ Series, talent showcases, FanFest, and the Legends Show; the CCMA Awards Show, which is televised nationally; as well as an industry conference with educational workshops and seminars, networking receptions, awards ceremonies, and more. Also taking place during Country Music Week is the induction ceremony for the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, which this year is honouring three-time Juno Award-winner Charlie Major, as well as Anya Wilson, who has been instrumental to the growth of Canada’s country music industry as a publicist, CCMA committee member, and driving force in the creation of the Country Music Association of Ontario. Honey Jam to Showcase Canada’s Top Emerging Female Artists After holding auditions in June, Honey Jam is ready to stage its annual concert on Aug. 22, 2019 at the Mod Club in Toronto. Each year, Honey Jam showcases female artists aged 14 to 25 in any genre and supports them with career-boosting educational and development opportunities. The full lineup of performers will be announced in the coming weeks. All of the artists chosen to perform this year’s showcase will attend a music industry workshop at Harris Institute, re- ceive one-on-one vocal and performance coaching, have their original songs played on radio, and more. Submissions Open for Walk of Fame’s Emerging Musician Program Canada’s Walk of Fame has launched its seventh annual RBC Emerging Musician Program, which supports aspiring Canadian musical artists between the ages of 15 to 35. Valued at more than $100,000, the winner will receive a prize comprised of $20,000 cash, private studio time at Metalworks Studios, introductions to established and well-known artists, access to music industry influencers, exposure to audiences and me- dia, as well as artist development. Submis- sions will be accepted until Aug. 2, 2019. New to the competition prize this year, select winners and finalists will receive the opportunity to perform a showcase in February 2020 at Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg, with flights and accommoda- tions covered by Canada’s Walk of Fame.
