HOT GEAR Sabian Artisan Light Hats Sabian has released the Artisan Light Hats range, designed to deliver complex tone with crisp-but-soft stick sounds for dynamic responses at all levels. With their high-density hand hammering design, the Artisan Light Hats offer drummers a rich, dark sound for low-volume situ- ations. The key to the design is its pairing of a thin-crash weight top with a medium-lightweight bottom, resulting in lower-pitched tone than Sabian’s regular Artisan Hats. This combination also adds more complexity and more open sound, which in turn makes them ideal for lower volume situations; however, they are not exclusively intended for low volume. While not designed for loud and heavy bands, their complexity and dark tone are ideal for many other settings. The Artisan Light Hats are available in 14- and 15-in. models in a natural or brilliant finish. A single 21-in. powered subwoofer, the DJ21S is designed to deliver the extremely deep frequencies that much modern music requires with a frequency response that goes down to 24 Hz. The DJ21S designed to be cost-effective enough for DJs who are pro- viding their own sound reinforcement. The DJ21S’s 21-in. woofer is designed to operate in smaller enclosures and a split-wound coil is used because it can produce more linear force through the range of movement of the cone. The driver features a split-wound, 4.5-in., four-layer, copper-clad aluminum voice coil, capable of peak-to-peak excursion of up to 60 mm. To take advantage of the massive displacement of the woofer, the vented enclosure is tuned to optimize extremely low frequency output using a large port. The port walls double as cabinet bracing and the port air flow serves to cool the amplifier. The total package weighs 138 lbs. Completely passive with no need for power, the LX-3 is designed to send one audio signal to up to three destinations at once. The heart of the LX-3 is a Jensen transformer, which provides two isolated outputs to eliminate hum and buzz from ground loops, along with a third direct output. All three XLR outputs feature ground lift switches for additional suppression of noise and an input pad allows the user to connect super high line output levels without oversaturating the audio transformer. The input of the LX-3 features an XLR/TRS combo jack, which allows the connection of balanced or unbalanced cables. The LX-3 will balance the signal at the isolated outputs, preventing interference and signal degrada- tion over long cable runs.
