I found the Polysix on one of my routine visits to To- ronto music store Paul’s Boutique. I was looking for something new and had never actually seen somebody use one before, so I thought it would be a fun adventure. It has a warmth and organic feeling all its own. JOSHUA HOFMANN Classic Albums Live STAY CONNECTED “Sad story – the Polysix has patch memory, which is powered by a bat- tery. Unfortunately, the batteries tend to leak acid, and the way they’re placed in the synth means the acid tends to leak into some very important places. Basically, if you don’t catch the leak early enough, the unit is done for. I was devastated when my Polysix got a ter- minal diagnosis a few years ago, and I haven’t been able to bring myself to turn it on since. I guess I’m putting off saying goodbye. So now live, I do everything on my Nord Wave, which frankly sounds nothing like the Polysix, but when it’s coming through a PA in a big ol’ room full of drunk people, nobody really minds. The Korg Legacy edition software has a great Polysix soft synth that I use in my home studio all the time.” GRAHAM WRIGHT Nord Piano 2 Keyboard Nord Lead A1 Keyboard Nord Electro 2 Keyboard with TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb Roland INTEGRA-7 Sound Module Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro MIDI Controller MOTU MIDI Express XT Interface Hammond B3 Joshua Hofmann has performed on a variety of CAL album recreations, including the White Album, Hotel California, and various Led Zeppelin records.
