Final attendance figures were not available as CMT went to print, but organiz- ers say that pre-registration was up over past years. For the presentations, such as the keynote by Grammy-winning mix engineer Dave Pensado and music manager/ executive Herb Trawick of Pensado’s Place, the theatre and overflow room were filled to capacity. From the stage, Trawick praised the ethnic and gender diversity of those in the theatre. “When we sit in the TV studio we film in, there is a disconnect sometimes be- tween us and our audience, so we make a big effort here to connect with that audience,” Pensado told Canadian Music Trade. Trawick added with a laugh, “It’s inspir- ing; how hard is it to go to a place and have 400 or 500 people go, ‘We love you!’” There were other musician-focused presentations on utilizing Spotify, making a living in Toronto, and a “How I Mix” session with Rich Chycki (Aerosmith, Rush, Pink). The Cooking Beats interactive producer master class was hosted by FrancisGotHeat, who has produced beats for Drake, Eminem, Big Sean, and more.
