Waldorf Iridium Synthesizer
Waldorf Music has introduced the Iridium Synthesizer, which borrows its
functionality, tonality, and traits from the flagship Quantum Synthesizer
released in 2018, but with the added benefit of a compact form factor.
Following in the Quantum Synthesizer’s footsteps, the Iridium
Synthesizer features a large high-resolution, multitouch, haptic display
working in harmony with a control panel, positioning all functions for
efficient operation. Noticeably new to the Iridium is its integrated 4 x 4
pad matrix, used to call up sequences, chords, scales, and arpeggios. The
Iridium still shares the same selectable sound generation processes per
oscillator (OSC 1, OSC 2, and OSC 3). As such, it can convincingly
and comprehensively reproduce the sound spectra of the following five
synthesis types: Wavetable, Waveform, Particle, Resonator, and Kernels.

PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo
Guitars
PRS Guitars has introduced the SE Hollowbody
II Piezo, which is the first piezoequipped
instrument in the SE Series. Now
boasting a newly-designed LR Baggs/PRS Piezo
system, the SE Hollowbody II Piezo provides
musicians with the versatility of wielding both
acoustic and electric tones in one instrument.
Constructed with a maple top and back and
mahogany sides, the guitar offers a “balanced
voice with light shimmer and snap,” according
to the company. The 58/15 “S” pickups are
designed to deliver a clarity that sounds big and
musical in a hollowbody platform. It’s designed
with two discrete volume controls (magnetics
and piezo) and output jacks (mix/piezo and magnetics).
Players can plug into the “Mix/Piezo”
jack and use the individual volume controls to
blend the 58/15 “S” pickups with the piezo’s
acoustic tones. Alternatively, players can plug
into the jacks separately, so the guitar can run
magnetic pickups into an amp and
run the piezo through an acoustic
amp or DI into the soundboard.
When using the magnetic output
jack in isolation, the piezo battery
is bypassed completely, acting as a
failsafe (in this scenario, the magnetic
pickups still work even if
the piezo battery has run out of
juice). The company says this
makes it the most versatile
guitar in the SE Series.

Korg RK-100S 2 Keytar
Korg has released the RK-100S
2 keytar, which is an updated
version of the RK-100S released
in 2014, which itself was a reissue
of the company’s 1980s-era
keytar.
Like the RK-100S, the RK-
100S 2 eliminates the need for an external sound module
with its built-in modeling sound generator. It’s also more
compact and lightweight than the ‘80s original with the
addition of a 37-note slim keyboard and dual ribbon
controllers. Compared to the RK-100S, the RK-100S 2
has improved rigidity, plus an artisanal wooden body with
a finish that accentuates the grain of the wood. It is also
equipped with a MIDI output and USB connectivity,
which allow it to be used as a master keyboard.
