Alberta Health Services has endorsed a government controlled system of distribution and retail similar to what New Brunswick and Ontario have announced. Alberta’s NDP government has considered many options including standalone specialty stores, the utilization of private liquor stores or government-controlled sales. In Ontario, the provincial government recently announced its plan for the legal recreational market. Highlights include online distribution as well as 150 standalone storefronts. The cannabis stores will operate with the same retailing standards that apply to alcohol, as well as federal requirements for cannabis sales, and be operated by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO).
