As the tracks traverse the Alaska Range, on a clear day, you will witness incredible views of Denali, North America’s tallest peak. Travelling from Anchorage to Denali National Park is the most popular Alaska Railroad route, and you can choose from two classes of passenger service: Adventure Class or GoldStar Service. GoldStar Service features bi-level, glass-domed railcars and includes meals in the full-service dining room. Available from mid-May to mid-September. A string of massive glaciers, visible only from the train, enhances the journey as you travel south to Seward on the shores of Resurrection Bay. This area is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park where you can enjoy whale watching, tidewater glacier viewing, or even enjoy a summer dog sled ride. Two levels of passenger service are available on the Coastal Classic: Adventure Class and GoldStar Service. GoldStar Service features bi-level railcars with glass-dome ceilings and an exclusive outdoor viewing platform - an excellent vantage point to see the most beautiful stretch of the Alaska Railroad - and includes full-service dining with a view. Depart from either Seward or Anchorage; runs mid-May to mid-September. Departing from Anchorage, the Glacier Discovery Train travels south along the shore of Turnagain Arm. This area is part of the Chugach National Forest, the second largest in the United States. After stopping at the resort town of Girdwood, the train leaves the main track for the journey through a mountain tunnel to the port of Whittier - the gateway to Prince William Sound - where many passengers board day cruises to view glaciers and marine wildlife. The train then continues south to the Placer Valley, an area only accessible by train. Disembark at Spencer Glacier and join a guided rafting or kayaking trip among the icebergs on Spencer Lake, or a hike with a Forest Service Ranger. Stay on board the train and enjoy views of the spectacular glaciers in Grandview. Daily round-trip service from late May to mid-September.
