JASPER WINTER TOURING / Alberta Marmot Basin Marmot Basin is the only ski area in Jasper National Park, which is an integral part of the UNESCO Canadian Rockies World Heritage Site. Virtually every location on the mountain is an inspirational viewpoint of breathtaking scenery. Marmot Basin offers 696 hectares (1,720 acres) of diverse, skiable terrain on five mountain faces for all ability levels from mid-November to early May. Nature delivers over 400 centimetres of dry, Rocky Mountain powder snow annually to Marmot Basin, which boasts the highest base elevation of any major ski area in Canada. Seven modern lifts ensure that skiers and snowboarders spend their day on the slopes, not in lift lines. Ski area amenities include three day-lodges with restaurants, ski/snowboard rentals, Snow School lessons, the Outer Limits retail shop and Little Rascals Nursery. The ski area is located 20 km south of the authentic, mountain town of Jasper. Winter visitors regularly see elk (wapiti), bighorn sheep, deer, coyotes, and more rarely, wolves, lynx, moose or possibly woodland caribou. A beautiful winter destination to create wonderful memories and enjoy the famous slopes of the Canadian Rockies.
