sister to sister
a place of multicultural fellowship in Christ
studying the Bible in English
God is bringing many different languages and cultures to
Calvary Church, including many Korean families who are in
the U.S. attending Calvin Seminary. One of the newer ministries that was formed as a result is Sister to Sister. Under
the leaderhip of Bo-Ram Kwon and Nam Kim (Calvary’s Director of International Ministries), this mentoring ministry
has paired Korean women (little sisters) with Calvary women (big sisters). It has been a privilege to welcome our Korean sisters into community and share our cultures with each
other. We have explored God’s word together, invited each
other to our homes, gone on picnics, done crafts together,
and celebrated birthdays and holidays.
Here are some of the experiences and memorable moments
from both the big and little sisters -

At first, I simply wanted to learn English and the American culture in Sister to Sister. But now, I thank God for giving me more
than I expected through this fellowship. I felt the love of God
through my kind partner, Hennie, and another couple, Helen
and Soo-young. I will never forget all the big sisters who gave
their attention to this minority group like me. I hope to be a "big
sister" like them when I go back to my country.
My most memorable moment this year was when the “little sisters”
surrounded me and prayed over me. One way Koreans pray is
out loud--all at the same time. Because I couldn’t understand
the language, I felt that I was surrounded by voices from heaven,
and the acute sense of what it will be like spending eternity with
“every tongue and every tribe” struck me in a very profound way.
It made me realize that as sisters in Christ we are bound together
by the Holy Spirit in a way that transcends language. Along
with that very moving moment, I really enjoyed spending time
with my little sisters as a guest in their home. I think they are the
most hospitable women in the world!
