given us words that are more powerful, true, inspiring and
worthy than “the moon is blue” or “I only need 11”.
As I consider our church, I believe we need to hear our Savior
say with passion, vigor and intensity, “All Authority in heaven
and on earth have been given to me, now go!” (Matt 28:18-19).
We need to hear the Lord declare his intention for us as His
children, and it should elicit a vigor within us that surpasses
my high school desire to win a state football championship.
This is Jesus’ Bigger Faster Stronger program. Hone in on the
Word of instruction and in doing so, “make every effort to confirm your calling and election” (2 Peter 1:10). To the adherents
of this program, this great commission, you are promised far
more than the moon, you are promised eternal life with amazing rewards.
The game field Jesus has you on is not much different from
the one I played on. You can hide and pretend to contribute,
but one of your teammates will sniff you out. On the days we
lifted, Coach Zap would tell us, “You’re here… you might as
well lift.” Look, you are here. You might as well work hard and
play. According to Scripture, the desire to play and get better
are the marks that you are really on the team. You and I have
a job to do and if we don’t do it we will be held accountable.
God is the best coach we could ever have, and He will continue to extend to you the offer to believe Him, to join His team
and then lovingly correct you as you contribute to the team.
More than that, we know the outcome of the game! Things
will be His way and that is the way it is going to be around
here. The key to success in any game is to block out the noise
and focus on the guidance of your coach. And when the time
comes for you and Him to review the game film of your life, I
pray He finds you faithfully participating and making plays as
you are led and inspired by the passion of His Word. His Word
makes your words count.
