Editor’s Note
Ecclesiastes 1:9 tells us, “What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again; there is nothing
new under the sun.” When it comes to the Calvary Life
theme this month, this verse is especially true. For
August we’re taking another look at the power of words.
Earlier this summer we were encouraged by Pastor Jim
to come more expectantly to the Word of God, to truly
have faith that He would speak through the Bible. It was
inspiring to hear Calvary people share how God has
spoken to them as they’ve turned their ear to listen.
With this in mind, we wanted to take the summer to
explore not just the power of the words we use with one
another, but the power of the words God has spoken to
us through the Bible. What does it mean to expect God’s
Word to hold true? How do we inductively seek out and
interpret truth as we read the Bible? These are just a
couple of the questions we’re diving into in this month’s
Calvary Life.
My hope is that in the midst of trying to savor the
remaining sweetness of summer, you’ll be inspired to
seek out a special Word from our Savior. While there
may be nothing new under the sun, God’s Word is alive
and active. Let us come expectantly, believing fully that
when we show up to the Bible, God will meet us there.
And what could be more powerful than that?
