orchestrated caused the heavenly beings to
stand in awe. 1 Peter goes on to say, “Even
angels long to look into these things.”
We could call Isaiah the cliff-notes of the en-
tire Bible as it unfolds the story of creation,
fall, redemption and restoration. Even the
format is similar to the entirety of Scripture.
Isaiah has sixty-six chapters and two divi-
sions just like the Bible. Thirty-nine chapters
(like the thirty-nine books of the Old Testa-
ment) focus more on the judgment of God
for a people who has continually turned their
hearts from Him. The next twenty-seven
chapters (like the twenty-seven books in the
New Testament) bring forth words of hope
and comfort as the “ideal Servant” accom-
plishes what the people could not do.
Because of the vastness of the book of
Isaiah, our Adult Bible Studies this year will
focus on the imagery in Isaiah. The title of
our study is “Revealed: Seeing the LORD
Through the Imagery of Isaiah.” We’ll follow
the scarlet thread from Isaiah to other Old
Testament cross-references and then into
the New Testament where we will see many
prophesies fulfilled. Some of the imagery this
fall will include the Father and his rebellious
children, what it means to be washed white
as snow, the Refiner’s fire, the Vineyard, the
Throne, the Seed, Immanuel (God with us),
the Rock, and Light & Darkness.
May the message of Christ dwell richly
among us as we set out on a remarkable
journey of discovery through Isaiah!
