editor’s note The transition to fall begins early around the church office. Leaves are still far from changing their colors when we begin turning our varied ideas into solid plans. It’s an exciting time when you can begin to see how people will respond to the vision that God has placed on your heart. If I’m being honest, it’s also a little scary. More than ever, as we’ve journeyed together as a church, God is taking us outside our comfort zone. A thousand questions come with every step in a new direction. What if no one shows up? What if I heard God wrong? What if all the kids show up but there’s no one to hold them when they cry? Why would anyone ever want to help me with this project? These questions are all fairly valid. Doubts creep in and, no matter how enthused we are about what is ahead, our faith that God is leading us can take a hit. For every doubt, for every question, there is a story of God’s faithfulness. When we obey and step into His call, we have the opportunity to experience His best for us. There are ups and downs, but as we learned this summer - good things happen when we obey. Where is God leading you this fall? Whether He speaks to you through His Word, through a sermon, or through a conversation with a dear friend, I trust that He has something for you in this new season. On behalf of the church staff, I encourage you to con- sider how you can engage with the life of the church. It’s really what this magazine is all about — presenting you with a taste of what’s going on in the church and encouraging you to take the next step in your journey of faith. We can’t do church without you. What God has for Calvary is bigger than our staff and a few key volunteers. There is an opportunity for everyone who is reading these words to find a place that stretches them and uses the gifts God has given them. Make the call, take the step, now is the time.
