welcome
We welcome others in Christ’s name. He welcomes us to be a part of His work.
Open Door Project 2016-2017
What is Calvary’s Open Door Project?
For over 20 years, Calvary has had the opportunity to gener-
ously support outreach projects - both in our own West Mich-
igan community and around the world. Originally called “Open
Door Vision,” these projects have been prayerfully chosen
each fall by our Missions and Outreach Staff. Over the years,
millions of dollars have been given and many lives have been
impacted with the gospel and the love of Christ.
Who were our 2016-17 Open Door gift recipients?
This past year, our Open Door Project, “Welcome,” allowed us
to direct our gifts three ways:
1. The West Michigan Friendship Center is a new
ministry — with Calvary Church serving as a catalyst
— to refugees and immigrant families in our area,
particularly those from Muslim areas of the world.
Their vision is to provide a place where people can
find community and get to know Americans who love
Jesus and them, offering services such as English
tutoring, discussion groups, and cultural evenings.
Hope of Nations
2. The Hope of the Nations Refugee Center, operated by
Horizons International, in Beirut, Lebanon, where Syrian
refugees find resources from food packages to school
opportunities for their children. They can experience
Christian worship through daily gatherings and can
know Christian love through the Lebanese and inter-
national staff and volunteers working on their behalf.
3. Connecting Calvary people with opportunities to learn
about refugee ministry in various settings around the
world. We were able to host Sven and Elke, the found-
ers of Sharehaus in Berlin, where Germans and inter-
nationals can live in community in a building housing
