This year in middle school ministry, God has been growing us into a family; an unexpected, zany
family who is learning together what it means to love God and love each other. This past year we
laughed, we walked through hard things, we held each other accountable, we took steps of faith, we
ate pizza, we believed that God is who He says He is, we played floor hockey, we read God’s Word,
and we prayed for each other.
Programs and events are valuable and fun things, but they can’t replace the sweetness of real com-
munity. God has been teaching us how to really live life together; to look out for each other, to en-
courage each other, to hold each other up, and to point each other to Jesus. It’s messy, and we’re still
a work in progress, but God is in our midst and it is beautiful.
To wrap up our year, we asked students to write down where they saw God at work this year in
middle school (and then we threw a mountain of confetti into the air to celebrate!). Here are a few of
their answers:
• Making friends & bringing me
closer to God.
• My faith grew stronger.
• God showed me that I am loved
no matter what.
• I prayed for God to bring me friends...he
put me here!
• Growing closer with God & friends. He an-
swered endless prayers. God is good.
• God spoke to me in new ways.
• I have new friendships and I have become
much more confident this year. I became
much closer to God.
• God taught me how to treat others better
and how to handle someone not treating
me well.
• That I met kids that really know what being
a follower of Christ means.
• Helped me branch out and help others to
know Jesus.
• Getting baptized & my small group.
• God taught me to love him through and
through and to love my enemies.
• Our small group.
• Knowing that I don’t need to be good at
evangelism to evangelize.
• To trust God no matter what the cost.
• I am thankful for a small group that prays
for each other.
• How to reach out and love more people.
