Community & Care
Jim Stortz, Community & Care Team Leader
Not unlike previous years, this past fiscal year was filled with much hard work and reliance on the
Lord and as He laid out His plans, we were quick to follow in obedience. He laid before us the im-
portance of disciple-making, biblical leadership, volunteer training, unifying Bible Study and focus-
ing on how life at Calvary can be more balanced.
The Lord began to give us a blueprint for how to live a balanced life here at Calvary which covers
four areas. While some areas may overlap, it is our prayer that each individual at Calvary would en-
gage in one each of the following:
Worship – gathering in the assembly for worship is a time in which the Spirit is uniquely pres-
ent. It is essential that each of us consistently participates in this foundational aspect of church.
Serve – Christ lived a life as a servant and we are called to live that same life. We are transformed
when we serve our neighbor. We have a multitude of opportunities to serve one another and
those outside our church.
Fellowship – We are created to be in relationship with other believers: building into each other
and being built into ourselves. There is a unique richness when we can be in a community that
is as diverse as heaven will be. Calvary Church offers a variety of ways to experience community,
from small groups to classes to regularly serving together.
Equip – God has called us to be a maturing body that is being equipped with His Word, so that
we can share it with others. Calvary has classes throughout the year to foster growth in biblical
wisdom.
Adult Sunday Classes & Calvary Equip
Karen VanHolstyn, Assistant Director, Adult Ministries
This past year was filled with new endeavors and structures, guided by our commitment to equip
and train our congregation to do the work the Lord has given each of us to do. One such endeavor
came as the Holy Spirit united us in goal and purpose to usher in a new era and focus on spiritual
maturity with Calvary Equip and a unified Adult Bible Study.
Our goal for Calvary Equip is to equip God’s p eople for works of service, so that the body of Christ
may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and
become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:12-13). Calvary
Equip classes are designed to help participants gain knowledge of tools of the faith, find enrich-
ment in their faith, obtain skills to do the work, receive opportunities to practice and find direction
on next steps. This is a great way to journey deeper in your spiritual formation. We offer classes on
a variety of topics, including prayer, discipleship/mentoring, sharing your faith, parenting, finances
and navigating Calvary Church. Check out calvargr.org/equip for a complete listing of classes offered
this fall.
